Really neat.

I love the composition in this one. You seriously have good ideas for trance music. Everything in this song, the pads, leads, progression, have really good melodies.

It's very relaxing, very trancey, very atmospheric.

What's that synth at 1.43? I love that pluck! 8D

This song just kind of lacks in one aspect: mixing. I can hear many synths in the same frequency range trying to compete with each other. Like the square synth at 0.58, feels like it's ducking in and out of the sidechained synth, and some others. What you can do is try to eq different synths to different frequencies, such that not too many instruments will take one frequency range. Especially the low mids, that seem to make every instrument sound fuller but really muddies up the song. Try to EQ every synth that is used, even if it's a preset.

Another thing that can be improved on is the kick. It sounds rather recessed into the background, and not that punchy. Probably can be fixed by EQing it. Try to boost the sub-bass and low bass, and a bit of treble and high mids. To make it stand out more, avoid letting other instruments take it's frequency ranges by cutting away the bass of all the other instruments. Many instruments have unneeded bass, probably as a result of reverb on them, that when added all together into a full song, can really take away from a kick.

Also, avoid adding reverb on low pitched instruments like the kick. This helps make the kick drum really punchy instead of distant. If you really want to, make it subtle. It's the bass frequencies you should watch the most, and make sure it is only dominated by the kick drum (and a select few other instruments, like the bass and possibly pads. Use parametric EQ 2 to see what frequencies each instrument has.

I'm not the expert mixer myself (self taught, and internet help), but I really hope these tips can help you in making music. This song is really good, I really love the melodies of this. Keep it up! And keep on making great music!

Wow thank you for the very in-depth review. I totally agree with all of your advice on mixing. I'm still very new to mixing and mastering so I'm very grateful for the specific tips you gave me. I'm definitely going to incorporate them into my future songs. That synth at 1:43 is a simple pluck chord with a low cutoff I made using Sylenth1.
I'm glad you liked this song and I hope you will review my future songs,

Wow

Very epic happy hardcore track. Can't believe these stuff actually exist on newgrounds (I mean, they're so hard to find)

I'm seriously loving this track, it's going to be one of the top few songs I've ever heard. Everything - the progression, the melodies, rhythms, whatever - are just perfect.

Wow.

Nice song! Sounds like a mix of techno, trance, dance and dubstep! All my favourite genres.

I think the mixing came out really well. I couldn't hear any mistakes, all the frequency ranges were well mixed.

Seriously a good song. I'm downloading this!

Woah.

Time based review.

0.05 : Hmm... minimalist. That pluck sound is great! Gives a starting mood that's mysterious.

0.39: Buildup!

0.53: In the beat now! Very catchy, I can't pause this song even if a zombie apocalypse has occured... Must continue!!

1.16: Vocals, I believe are from MLP. Really strong progression. The vocals really fit, and the song has this sudden dark mood.

1.57: Must... listen... too catchy...

2.40: That break!

2.43: Melodic part. That chilling pluck is really fitting that mood. Almost like a trance song after it's buildup. Epic, and I'd really want to dance.

3.27: Repetition of the same melody does really help enforce a tight, confined mood, especially with such a synth. Just genius, really fits.

4.10: Breakdown of some sort? I can hear a conclusion coming...

Really, 17 days?? That's seriously a long time.
You've seriously improved A LOT since I first discovered you and your music on newgrounds. Though your music has become MLP themed, I'm still not stopping listening to your tracks.

Keep on making music! :D Know that you have another fan. :)

Emotional.

Love this song. Somehow really brings memories of my childhood.

I really like your style of drums and piano. Subtly very sad, yet happy at the same time.

The song keeps a prolonged longing for something. It's not very clear exactly what it is, but really keeps me listening in anticipation.

The final chords really enhance the ending. As if you've just reached home.

Although this song is really short, you've told a story in less than a minute. A very calm story, with a happy ending. I'm not complaining that this song is short, as it really has a conclusion to it. Unlike many songs that end abruptly...

Great stuff!

And you've only been making DnB for 3 months? That's seriously good.

This song has some soothing quality, don't know if it's the triangle synths or the vocal pads. You really do have some good taste in choosing what goes into your songs.

I love this genre of DnB, really cool stuff.

Now, this song can improve through better mixing. I think the volume levels are alright, but somehow, the drums don't have that "oomph". EQing every instrument does help a lot, you can remove conflicting frequencies between similar-sounding instruments. The kick drum needs a bit more treble for the "click" sound, and snare can perhaps be a bit more prominent in the mix, by compressing to give them a stronger attack. Maybe the hi-hats can be a bit less obvious, and blend in more with the other drums.

Don't get me wrong, this song is actually good. I love the composition of this, the melodies, progression, everything. I'm just giving a couple of tips on mixing this. This song IS really good already, do keep it up!

Dubstep? Nah.

I like the progression here. Pretty soothing.

Unfortunately... the main part doesn't really sound dubstep-y. The bass synth is just a bass synth continuously playing. I thought dubstep was full of wobble basses, action and interesting synths.
I think remove the bass, and this song would turn into a pretty good ambient song. It's not particularly dubstep anyway.

D-Lyte12 responds:

Im not good at dubstep thats all...
This is part of my exercise for dubstep.. lol

Great!

I like the beginning, the pads in the chord progression do sound calm and peaceful. The only hint that it was a dubstep song was the harsh drum beats. Really trance-style, seems to have a good breakdown. Maybe you should remake this into a trance song.

Fluttershy seems to be saying "ee... hash-brow-brow-brown 'oh weekend". XD

The wubz were great! The kind that gives eargasms. The rhythm was good, but maybe a bit slow times, and the sound effects added were genius! Those wubs sound plain crazy.

I really do wish there was some link between the wubs and the pad/strings part. Maybe the base note for the wobble bass could match that of the chord progression? I don't know... Fading out the pads seem like a good idea too.

In mixing terms, I'd say the kick drum doesn't have enough 'oomph' in it. Needs more layering (and moar cowbell!) And the strings sound like they have too much mids, which can be cut. Can't say much anyway, I don't make dubstep myself.

In summary, fantastic! Do make more of this, my music player can do more of your songs. :D

Spectacular!

Although I never actually watched MLP (only the pilot double-episode), I seriously like this piece.

Never heard the original, but the melodies are somehow really suiting for DnB, judging by the fact that this song originated from a cartoon, which wouldn't really make DnB songs.

I love the drum breaks, they just help the song transition very well. Instrumentation of the drum beats were excellent, I could really tell you put a lot of effort into these drums. Really something to appreciate though.

There is a really big contrast between the harsh bass and soft piano sounds; such contrast works really well together, and complement each other well. I also really love the synths, and string sounds. It's like a battle between harsh and soft, strong and weak. This gives this song a neat edge and strong structure.

Only slight problems I can see are that the drums have too much presence, they seem to overpower the song. But since this is DnB, I can forgive you for that, but I'd still prefer the volume to be lower, so the main phasered lead synth and piano can be heard through.

Really nice, epic song. This is definitely going on to the top five, seeing that it has almost 90 votes and a really high score. Let's see if the zero bombers able to pull this one down then!

And congratulations on getting this song featured on Equestria Daily! It definitely deserves its place there.

Omnivore responds:

I still can't believe that happened, and thanks! The REAL credit here goes to Coleknows for he was the one sent the link to EQ!

Amazement...

Despite the instrumentation in this song being a bit to the low-quality (that cheeeeezy piano sound......), I find the composition really nice. It's trance alright, but there's quite a lot of nice melodies going on in this. I really love the the arpeggiated synth that plays, sounds like a turntable that is in tune...

I've been following you for the last couple of months, and really enjoy your style of music. Just plain beautiful. And your furry art isn't bad at all...

Learning musician and animator. Go check out my music!
